It’s been a REmarkable Christmas for Northumberland based company RE. The Corbridge shop which stocks an eclectic range of unusual, recycled and rescued objects has boosted its internet sales with the help of Newcastle based Indigo Multimedia. RE has had its most successful season of online retail to date with 85% of all its sales over the Christmas shopping period being done online.
The company initially stepped into the digital marketplace a couple of years ago with their Indigo designed website, Jenny Vaughan, co-founder of RE said: “We realised we needed to find solutions that would help us expand our business beyond the confines of the shop floor and allow us to develop a global market. Once again Indigo were able to provide the support, expertise, technology and eCommerce solutions we were looking for”.
Andrew Graney Indigo Multimedia Web Director explained how they fulfilled RE’s exacting requirements: “We updated the original site with a full eCommerce back end system, which included online ordering linked to stock control, order history, analysis tools and user accounts. This allowed RE to supplement their more traditional catalogue based selling methods and provide a more dynamic online shopping experience”.
The new RE website also allows the company to update each individual page allowing them to showcase a huge range of exclusive and distinctive items from around the world.
Since the new site was launched last November there has been an explosion in site traffic and sales with orders coming from as far away as Hong Kong, America and even South Africa. More than 416,000 page impressions were registered in November alone compared to 163,729 in the same period the previous year.
“By December we were receiving hundreds of orders per day online and without the solutions provided by Indigo, it would have been extremely difficult for us to cope with the demand for our products. We are primarily designers and initially it took a leap of faith to contend with the technology we needed. However Indigo were there with solutions that added value to our services and made life easier,” Says Jenny.
To top off an incredible year the site has been short-listed for Yahoo!’s ‘Finds of the Year 2006’ campaign, an annual award to the most interesting and innovative websites of that year.
