Newmedia agency Indigo is currently developing a new web platform commissioned by Durham County Council, in partnership with the Connexions Service. The site with a working title of Positive Activities, will build on the successes of initiatives such as Splash and Splash Extra, which were programmes of events and activities specifically designed for school holidays.
The new site aims to offer support for people from the ages of 8 to 19 who are most at risk of exclusion and committing crime and will act as a directory of things for young people to do within the County Durham area.
Positive Activities is part of a wider government agenda to provide opportunities for young people to access out of school activities throughout the year and receive support with learning and or employment.
Young people using the site will soon be able locate a range of activities from skateboarding, rollerblading and mountain biking. The system will allow young people to narrow down their search by postcode and even budget restriction, offering them the opportunity to easily locate a range of services and activities.
The site is being designed with young people in mind; its fresh, modern styling will also encourage people to rate activities, leave feedback and contribute to the overall content and feel of the site.
