Kielder Water & Forest Park on film

Digital creative agency Indigo Multimedia produce welcome film for Kielder Water & Forest Park visitor centre.

Kielder Water & Forest Park has undertaken an impressive revamp to its exhibition at the Tower Knowe Visitor Centre. At the heart of this is an eight-minute film welcoming visitors to the Kielder Water & Forest Park, filmed by Indigo Multimedia, a digital creative agency based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Indigo Multimedia was brought onto the scheme by project director Tim Crump who runs an agency based in Northumberland specialising in countryside and heritage communications. Tim coordinated the modernisation of the new exhibition within the Tower Knowe Visitor Centre and had worked with Indigo before on a project promoting access to the Otterburn Ranges.

Tim explained: “With such a wide array of attractions on offer it is vital that visitors can take on board information about Kielder Water & Forest Park in an enjoyable and engaging way. We wanted to ensure that the new exhibition offered information that is interesting, accurate and easy on the eyes. We recognised that one of the best and simplest yet most effective ways to share such a wealth of information would be through the voices of people who know and care about Kielder Water & Forest Park. I knew too that Indigo were the right team to do this important job.”

The main aim of the film is to give visitors a taste of the wide range of experiences, attractions and facilities on hand at Kielder Water & Forest Park, provide a glimpse into the lives of the people living and working in the area, while highlighting the beauty, peace and tranquillity of the region.

Tim said: “The team at Indigo have the rare combination of creative flair, friendliness and professionalism which puts those they interview and film immediately at ease and gives a professional result.”

Kielder Water & Forest Park is a 250 square miles in total, features the largest man-made lake in northern Europe and is home to the largest forest in England. Among its many attractions is a wide range of water sports including waterskiing, sailing and fishing, plus miles of trails including forest walks, bridleways and mountain bike tracks. It is also home to wildlife such as otters, red deer and red squirrels.

“The Indigo team filmed the main attractions and points of interest throughout the Kielder Water & Forest Park area. They also interviewed and filmed 11 people who live and work in the region. They then edited all of the footage into videos that run in synchronisation on three adjacent screens in the Tower Knowe Visitor Centre.”

John Adams who directed the film crew added: “Kielder Water & Forest Park has so much to offer and we were keen to make sure that the various elements came across in the film to ensure that visitors get a complete and accurate picture in an interesting way – without having to watch lengthy reels of film footage!

“As well as filming some of the impressive and beautiful scenery in the region and resident wildlife such as the red squirrels and bird life, we also talked to people who live and work at Kielder Water & Forest Park and filmed them going about their daily business. For example, we filmed a woman horse riding around Kielder Water in the snow, which was visually fantastic, and also interviewed staff who work at Kielder Castle cafe, which really gives a taste of life in the region.

The overall effect is an interesting and lively short film that is now the main feature of the newly revamped Tower Knowe Visitor Centre.”

Elisabeth Rowark, Kielder Partnership director, concluded: “We are delighted with the new-look Tower Knowe Visitor Centre and in particular the impressive welcome film and we are already receiving excellent feedback from visitors.”
